Safety & Environment

3

Safety management is a matter of prime concern to the Board of Datex Energy.   We are particularly concerned on the safe handling of our products during production, storage, transportation, usage and disposal.

The write up below will give visitors to this site an overview into our concern for safety and the environment.   However please note that these are general guidelines and all visitors are requested to contact local authorities on used oil disposal rules and regulation applicable to your respective areas before taking any action on disposal of used oils.

Used Oil Disposal

Waste oil is defined as a special waste if it is a “refined petroleum product that has become unsuitable for its original purpose owing to the presence of impurities, or a loss of its original properties.” This disposal procedure applies to the disposal of waste oil, or a non-hazardous material containing more than 3% by weight of oil.

Types of waste oil include the following:

  • Automotive lubricating oil
  • Cutting Oil
  • Fuel Oil
  • Gear Oil
  • Hydraulic Oil
  • Refined petroleum based Oil
  • Synthetic Oil
  • Vacuum
  • Pump Oil
  • Purpose

This procedure specifies the requirements for the packaging and disposal of oil or material contaminated with oil, such that all legislation is complied with.

Background

Before it was proven that contaminants in oil are dangerous to human health, oil was disposed of in sewers, burned and used as a dust suppressant on pavement. Today, oil can be used in manufacturing of pavement and for fuel only with strict adherence to guidelines imposed.

Waste oil is not permitted in sanitary or storm sewers.

Waste oil is not permitted in landfills in compliance.

Any spills that exceed 100 liters must be reported.

Procedure

The procedure for the collection and disposal of waste oil is as follows:

The oil can be collected in three ways:

It can be collected in the supplier’s original disposable plastic container if it is in good condition (i.e. not leaking).

  • One-gallon plastic oil cans.
  • 45 gallon metal or plastic drums
  • Do not use ordinary solvent cans for oil.
  • Fill out the solvent waste oil containers are properly marked and identified.
  • Write, Waste Oil”, Waste Oil contaminated with lead”, or “Petroleum Oil” as applicable call the number of the authorized authority for the material to be picked up.
  • Bring cans to usual solvent waste pick up place.
  • Do not mix waste oil with other solvents.
  • Do not overfill container

Environment Safety

We at Datex Energy are committed to continuously improve the quality of our lubricants to meet the requirements laid down by the American Petroleum Institute (API). By meeting the requirements of the API, we develop and market products that are environmentally sound thus protecting the environment, the health and safety of our employees and the communities where we operate.

Transportation Safety

Datex Energy tries to evaluate and manage risks involved from transport on land, sea and air to prevent harm/injury to people or harm to the environment.

In our industry products are moved by road, air and water and can put our environment and lives at risk.

However we have ways to minimize the risks and live longer while enjoying transportation activities. The essential elements in our operating management system are to ensure that hazards associated with transport are systematically identified, assessed and managed.

Safe Road Driving:

Driving remains one of the most dangerous activities people carry out at work. Driving safety standards are now incorporated and seek to promote safer driving, safer journeys and the use of safe vehicles. We believe these requirements have contributed to a reduction in road related fatalities in our activities.

Our aim is to reduce the number of driving related incidents. We track all our vehicles and service records which is concerned with any accident, whether it caused harm to any person or only resulted in vehicle damage. This covers vehicle incidents that cause an injury or fatality or result in a spill, a vehicle rollover or disabling damage to the vehicle.

Safe Shipping:

We transport our products across oceans, around coastlines and along waterways. We seek to ensure the vessels we use are safe and secure. In addition to providing the logistics to move our oil cargoes to market, our shipper provides assurance on marine activity.

More than 80% of the world’s cargo by volume (and 90% by trade) is carried by shipping.

It is important that the shipping industry recognizes its responsibility to participate and continue to contribute to environmental debate, particularly within the transport sector.

At a strategic level, we avoid known areas of pirate attacks or armed robbery; where this is not possible for trading reasons and we consider it safe to do so, we will continue to move trade vessels through these areas, subject to the adoption of heightened security measures.

Given the large numbers of vessels hijacked in the recent past, we follow available military and government agency advice and are participating in protective group transits. We also support the protective measures recommended in the international shipping

Product Safety

Datex Energy produces products of unmatched quality, which are safe to you and are accompanied by all necessary information.

Our customers who come into contact with our products have a right to expect that those products meet health, safety and environmental requirements. They expect to be provided with product information and support, including appropriate guidance on safe handling and any associated hazards or risks.  We assess our products prior to marketing, to identify any health, safety or environmental issues and to manage compliance with product safety legislation in intended markets.

Our product safety assessment starts with a review of the raw materials used to manufacture or formulate products. During the safety assessment, we consider published and unpublished information to reach conclusions on the hazard potential of our products.

The assessment also considers the potential for health or environmental impacts during product development, manufacturing, distribution, industrial or consumer use and eventual recovery or disposal. This evaluation identifies product health, safety and environmental risks for which additional risk management measures may be needed

Personal Safety

Datex Energy aims to continue providing a safe working environment for every member of their workforce. A safe and healthy working environment is essential for our growth and success.

Our health plan prioritizes the reduction of occupational exposure and infectious disease risks to protect the personal health and safety of our workforce, by recognizing that healthy people performance is delivered through healthy people by healthy processes. To ensure good health, industrial hygiene practices are followed within the organization. Essential practices have been built into the operating management system to prevent harm to the health of employees, visitors, local communities and customers.

We participate in promoting good practice across the industry. We have Internal reporting, recording systematic processes on health issues to executive-level management.   All employees of Datex Energy can raise health and safety concerns via joint management & labor safety board in regular meetings.
